Greetings and salutations!
On Canadian politics (kind of)
There’s been a recent wave of anti-Harper sentiment comparing him to Bush, or the Conservatives to the Republicans. Personally, I think the comparison is a flawed one based on the major differences between our nation’s cultures and political systems.
Regarding Canadian politics which are, on the whole, much less interesting – while I don’t imagine having three elections in four years’ time is particularly useful, I tend to favor minority governments in Canada as it forces parties to work together a bit more in the public interest.
All that said, this is somewhat of a smart move by the NDP. It’s just too bad that making Canadian politics more dramatic requires hanging onto American coat tails. As for the Dems going after McCain, that’s not at all surprising, just slightly disappointing in a campaign that was supposed to be above personal attacks. It’s just further proof that you have to play ball to succeed in the system. What happens once you’re in…well….that’s the $400 billion question.
With Hope (audacious as it may be),
Joseph
